Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said that she’s “enormously proud” of her daughter for getting arrested during an anti-Israel protest.
The far-left congresswoman made her first remarks since her 21-year-old daughter Isra Hirsi was put in handcuffs for at Columbia University in New York in a tweet late Friday afternoon.
“I am enormously proud of my daughter,” she posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Hirsi was one of more than 100 students arrested by the New York Police Department on Thursday for setting up a “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” of tents on Columbia’s campus in protest Israel’s war with Hamas.

The progressive Democrat, who has called for a cease-fire of Israel’s attacks in Gaza, lauded her daughter’s activism as a teenager for gun control and climate change, and now as a college junior “pushing her school to stand against genocide.”
“Stepping up to change what you can’t tolerate is why we as a country have the right to speech, assembly, and petition enshrined in our constitution,” the Minnesota congresswoman wrote.
Hirsi, who is an organizer with Columbia University’s Apartheid Divest organization, announced on Thursday that she was one of three students who was suspended from Barnard College “for standing in solidarity with Palestinians facing a genocide.”
Fellow squad members, Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), criticized the “appalling” suspension of their fellow squad mate’s spawn.
“From UM to Vanderbilt to USC to Columbia, students across our country are being retaliated against for using their constitutional rights to protest genocide. It’s appalling,” Tlaib commented on a retweet of Hirsi’s post.
According to a statement from the school, students were warned by senior staff at that they had “set up an unauthorized encampment” and would face sanctions if they did not leave.
“How does a student with no disciplinary record suddenly get to a suspension less than 24 hours after a nonviolent protest? What merits asymmetric crackdowns on Palestinian human rights protests,” Ocasio-Cortez questioned.
This bill by this Thompson jerk needs to be squashed, Jack Smith needs to be disbarred, removed from and not recognized as a lawyer. He is trying to overturn the 2024 election ahead of time.
