Greene Calls President ‘Insane’ Over Iran Threats

5 mins read

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene blasted President Donald Trump on Sunday, calling him “insane” after his latest threat toward Iran.

Her response came within hours of Trump posting a warning on Truth Social tied to the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route at the center of rising tensions following U.S. and Israeli strikes.

Early Sunday, Trump wrote that “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran,” signaling potential strikes on infrastructure.

“There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” he added.

Shortly after, Greene fired back, posting a screenshot of Trump’s message and calling it out directly.

“On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted,” she wrote.

She then turned her criticism toward Trump’s inner circle, saying those around him were failing to step in.

“Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness,” Greene said.

Her message escalated further as she accused both Trump and his allies of losing control.

“I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit,” she added.

The exchange unfolded as tensions continue to build around the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has restricted shipping following airstrikes linked to the U.S. and Israel. Trump has warned Iran to reopen the passage or face major consequences.

On Saturday, he gave Tehran a firm deadline. Iran had 48 hours to reopen the passageway “before all Hell will reign down on them,” he wrote in an earlier Truth Social post.

Greene rejected that framing and blamed the situation on U.S. and Israeli actions, arguing the conflict itself triggered the closure.

She said the strait is closed because of what she described as an “unprovoked war against Iran based on the same nuclear lies they’ve been telling for decades.”

She then pointed to Israel’s capabilities, arguing the U.S. should not be involved. “You know who has nuclear weapons? Israel,” she wrote.

“They are more than capable of defending themselves without the US having to fight their wars, kill innocent people and children, and pay for it.”

Greene has criticized Trump repeatedly since the conflict began in late February, accusing him of abandoning his base by engaging in another Middle East war.

She returned to that point again Sunday, saying Trump’s rhetoric contradicts his stated goals.

“Trump’s latest rhetoric hurts the Iranian people, the very people Trump claimed he was freeing,” she wrote.

She also framed her criticism in religious terms, arguing Trump’s language conflicts with Christian teachings.

“Our President is not a Christian and his words and actions should not be supported by Christians,” she said.

“Christians in the administration should be pursuing peace. Urging the President to make peace. Not escalating war that is hurting people.”

She extended that argument to Trump’s political promises, saying the current approach breaks from what voters were told.

“This NOT what we promised the American people when they overwhelmingly voted in 2024,” she wrote. “This is not making America great again, this is evil.”

Trump continued posting later Sunday, adding a specific time marker without explanation. “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!” he wrote.

That timing lined up with a Wall Street Journal interview in which he described what could happen if Iran does not act.

“If they don’t do something by Tuesday evening, they won’t have any power plants and they won’t have any bridges standing,” Trump told the outlet.

The comments drew immediate pushback from Democrats, who warned the threats could violate international law if carried out.

Sen. Chris Murphy said the statements amounted to a warning of war crimes. “Trump is calling reporters today to tell them he is going to commit mass war crimes next week,” Murphy wrote. “GOP leaders need to stop him.”

Murphy said targeting infrastructure like bridges and power plants would harm civilians and fail to reopen the strait.

“He isn’t even pretending to choose military targets,” Murphy continued.

He added that such actions would “kill tens of thousands of civilians in order to cause a national panic.”

He also questioned the strategy behind the threats, pointing to the broader consequences.

“And for what? To force Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz WHICH WAS OPEN BEFORE TRUMP STARTED BOMBING IRAN???” he penned. “This is pure insanity. It won’t work. It will just permanently stain America.”

Murphy urged Republican leaders to act, calling for Congress to step in. “GOP leaders should call Congress back into session this week to end this war,” he called.

Other Democrats echoed that criticism throughout the day. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Trump’s posts came as Americans were marking Easter.

He wrote that Trump was “ranting like an unhinged madman” online while families gathered for the holiday.

Rep. Jake Auchincloss said Trump’s approach misunderstands the strategic importance of the strait.

“The nature of grand strategy is about choke point control,” Auchincloss said. “It is not about the raw exercise of power.”

He argued Iran’s control over the passageway now carries more weight than any nuclear ambitions.

“Now Iran recognizes that… their control over the strait is even more strategically vital to them than the development of a nuclear weapon,” he commented.

Auchincloss also described Trump’s posture as inconsistent.“He is blustering… he always backs down,” he pointed out.

He added that Trump had already shifted leverage to Iran while escalating the conflict.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore tied the situation to domestic concerns, pointing to the impact on fuel prices.

“The best thing that we could do… is stop fighting foreign wars,” Moore said during a Sunday interview.

Republicans offered a different view, focusing on maintaining pressure on Iran without escalating to a ground invasion.

Rep. Mike Turner said he does not believe troops will be required to reopen the strait but supports continued action.

“I don’t believe so. I think that certainly that this is going to be… a diminishing regime,” Turner remarked.

He said the U.S. must address Iran’s broader ambitions. “You have to be able to address this… global power ambition that Iran has,” he added.

Rep. Mike Lawler said any troop deployment would need a clear purpose and congressional oversight.

“The only purpose… would be to get the enriched uranium,” Lawler stated. “And I think Congress would need to be briefed on that particular matter.”

Trump has not ruled out sending troops if Iran refuses to make a deal. “Normal people would make a deal. Smart people would make a deal,” he commented. “If they were smart they would make a deal.”
