Bill Clinton told House investigators that Donald Trump ended his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein decades ago over a disputed land deal.
The former president spent more than six hours behind closed doors answering questions from the House Oversight Committee about his own relationship with the disgraced financier.
He insisted throughout the session that he witnessed no misconduct and committed none. “I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong,” Clinton declared in an opening statement he later shared on social media.
Lawmakers pressed Clinton about his past interactions with Epstein, including flights on the financier’s private jet and visits during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Clinton acknowledged a documented friendship that stretched through about 2003 but maintained he had no knowledge of criminal behavior.
During the deposition, Clinton relayed a detail about Trump that drew attention inside the room. He told members that Trump informed him at a golf tournament in the early 2000s that he was no longer friends with Epstein.
Sources familiar with the testimony said the break stemmed from a land deal, though no further specifics were provided.

Trump has addressed his own relationship with Epstein in the past. After Epstein’s 2019 arrest on federal sex trafficking charges, Trump told reporters he had not spoken to Epstein in more than 15 years and added that he was “not a fan of his, that I can tell you. I was not a fan of his.”
In 2025, Trump recounted another episode at one of his golf courses in Scotland, claiming Epstein “stole” young female staffers from Mar-a-Lago.
“He stole people that worked for me. I said, ”Don’t ever do that again.” He did it again, and I threw him out of the place, persona non grata,” Trump said at the time.
So in 2002, Chelsea Clinton attended King Mohammed VI’s wedding in Morocco with her father Bill Clinton, along with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein.
But we’re supposed to believe Hillary Clinton never met Epstein.

Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer offered his own account of Clinton’s testimony during a break in the proceedings.
“Trump has never said anything to me to make me think he was involved,” Comer quoted Clinton as telling lawmakers.
Comer framed the session as historic and significant for Congress. “This was historical,” he said. “I believe that in the history of Congress, the two highest ranked officials to ever be deposed by Congress would be President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”
He also noted that Clinton attempted to respond to each question. “He did attempt to respond to every single question asked, even when his attorney told him to shut up,” Comer remarked.

Democrats on the panel disputed Comer’s interpretation of the exchange about Trump. Ranking member Robert Garcia pushed back on the chairman’s description and suggested the full transcript would tell a broader story.
“I think the best response is for you to view the complete record of what actually he said,” Garcia told reporters.
Garcia argued that Clinton’s testimony raised new issues surrounding Trump’s past comments and called for equal scrutiny.
“We’re demanding immediately that we ask President Trump to testify in front of our committee and be deposed in front of Oversight Republicans and Democrats,” he said.
Clinton himself addressed the line of questioning surrounding Trump. “I know there’s a lot of obsession about President Trump from the media, a lot of curiosity about President Trump from media. I want to make a statement because they’ll probably not mention this when they come out here,” Comer recounted Clinton saying during the deposition.

The former president also defended his own conduct. “You’ll often hear me say that I don’t recall. That might be unsatisfying. But I’m not going to say something I’m not sure of,” Clinton told lawmakers.
“This was all a long time ago. And I am bound by my oath not to speculate, or to guess. This is not merely for my benefit, but because it doesn’t help you for me to play detective 24 years later.”
Clinton’s testimony comes as both he and Trump face scrutiny after being named thousands of times in newly released Epstein files from the Justice Department. Neither man has been charged with wrongdoing in connection to Epstein’s crimes.
In a declaration to lawmakers last month, Clinton admitted flying on Epstein’s plane in 2002 and 2003 while conducting international work for the Clinton Foundation.
He explained that Epstein “offered a plane that was big enough to accommodate me, my staff and my US Secret Service detail, in support of visiting the Foundation’s philanthropic work.”
Clinton has maintained that he never visited Epstein’s private Caribbean island, Little St James, where many accusers say they were trafficked.
Maxwell told the Justice Department in an interview last year that Clinton was never there.
“I do not recall speaking to Mr Epstein for more than a decade prior to his 2019 arrest,” Clinton stated in that declaration.
The deposition also carried personal overtones. Clinton criticized the committee for compelling his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to testify a day earlier.
“You made Hillary come in. She had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. Nothing,” Clinton told lawmakers.
“She has no memory of even meeting him. She neither traveled with him nor visited any of his properties. Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right.”
President Trump reacted to news of the deposition outside the White House and voiced sympathy for his predecessor. “Look, I like him, and I don’t like seeing him deposed,” Trump said. “They certainly went after me.”
President Trump:
“I don’t like seeing [Bill Clinton] Deposed, but they certainly went after me.”

Garcia signaled that Democrats would expand the scope of their inquiry if they regain control of the House.
“We now want President Trump to come in and to testify under oath in front of the Oversight Committee. We want the first lady, who we know had a relationship as well with Jeffrey Epstein, to come in under oath and testify to the Oversight Committee,” he said.
He added that subpoenas would follow for anyone believed to have had ties to Epstein. “We’re going to have a very long list of people. Anyone that we believe had a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein on day one will have a subpoena from our committee,” Garcia stated.
