GOP Candidate Blames Democrats for CNN Smear Campaign

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson isn’t backing down after a bombshell CNN report full of his alleged past comments.

The report alleges Robinson made inflammatory comments on an adult website, but the Republican candidate for governor made it clear: he’s staying in the race.

In a video posted to the social platform X (formerly Twitter), Robinson claimed that the explosive report was a dirty trick orchestrated by his opponent, Democratic nominee Josh Stein.

Robinson stood firm, asserting that the story was a fabrication intended to derail his campaign.

“Let me assure you, the things you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson,” he said. “You know my words. You know my character, and you know that I have been completely transparent in this race and before.”

He was equally firm on his commitment to the race, stating, “We are staying in this race. We are in it to win it.”

CNN published its article shortly after Robinson’s video, accusing him of making offensive comments on a pornography website between 2008 and 2012.

The report claims Robinson, using the pseudonym “minisoldr,” posted on a website called “Nude Africa,” where he allegedly wished for slavery to be reinstated.

CNN claims the account was tied to Robinson because his full name was listed on the account and the email address aligns with one used by Robinson previously.

According to the report, Robinson made multiple posts discussing his controversial views on race, gender, and abortion.

Unsurprisingly, CNN’s report has sparked outrage, but Robinson isn’t taking the bait.

In an interview with the outlet, he denied the comments, calling them “manufactured salacious tabloid lies.”

He avoided addressing the specific evidence tying him to the posts, focusing instead on his claim that the report was a political hit job.

Robinson’s campaign has faced personal attacks before. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that he was a frequent visitor to adult stores in Greensboro during the 1990s and early 2000s—an allegation he has flatly denied.

While Robinson’s base remains energized by his unapologetic conservatism, the road ahead looks challenging.

Polls already show him trailing Democratic nominee Josh Stein by double digits.
