President Trump used a conservative summit Friday to warn that New York’s socialist-backed primary upsets were not a local political flare-up, but a national alarm bell for Democrats.

Speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s annual policy conference in Washington, Trump argued that Tuesday’s New York results showed the party’s left flank gaining power while its establishment stood frozen.

“The Democrat Party is in big trouble because this isn’t stopping with New York,” Trump said Friday.

“It’s too easy to get elected, giving everything away,” Trump warned. “It’s easy for them to get followers because they make promises they know they can’t keep.”

He also accused Democratic leaders of standing down because “they’re afraid to fight.”

“These are not social democrats. These are hardcore, godless communists. They’re godless communists. All communists are godless. They don’t believe in God,” he pointed out.

“This is the most serious threat to our country since its existence. In my opinion, 250 years ago. This is a major threat to our country,” Trump declared.

The president framed the moment against America’s upcoming 250th birthday, saying the country should be focused on faith, freedom and victories instead of another ideological fight over its foundations.

“Our most important birthday so far, 250 years and instead of speaking about Christ and instead of speaking about freedom and victories of all different kinds, we’re speaking about yet another threat to the foundations of America,” Trump remarked.

The speech followed a New York primary night that elevated several socialist-backed Democrats, including three candidates carrying Mamdani’s endorsement.

Mamdani’s winning slate included Brad Lander, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier.

Trump linked those victories to a separate fight over New York City rents, taking aim at a historic vote by the city’s Rent Guidelines Board.

“For the first time in history, the powerful Rent Stabilization Board, as an example that sets rents in New York City just happened today. They’ve done it for years and years and they’ve been very far left,” Trump told attendees.

The 7-1 vote barred increases on new one-year and two-year leases.

“Mayor Mamdani, who came to the White House and seemed like a nice guy, but he said he was going to do this in his campaign,” Trump noted.

He warned that the freeze would accelerate urban decay and push more residents out of New York.

“What the mayor doesn’t say is that these buildings will soon turn into ghettos and slums, and that everybody will continue leaving New York,” Trump cautioned.

“As this spreads throughout the country, very much like an uncontrollable form of cancer, the country itself will be taken down. It will be third world, strictly third world,” he firmly warned.

“And it’s happened many times before to very big and very powerful countries. But it’s not going to happen to the United States of America,” Trump vowed.

Mamdani celebrated the board’s move as a “historic victory” and framed it as part of a broader affordability push.

“I’ll continue working to deliver a more affordable city by building and preserving affordable housing, lowering building operating costs like insurance, and ensuring tenants know their rights,” he said.

On MS NOW’s “All In With Chris Hayes,” Mamdani cast Tuesday’s primary results as a rejection of stale Democratic politics.

“I think what you’ve seen from New Yorkers, whether it’s in Brad’s race, Darializa’s race, or Claire’s race, is an exhaustion with status quo politics and a desire for something that actually responds to the needs that they have in their own districts,” Mamdani assessed.

He tied the wins to pocketbook pressure, working-class messaging and opposition to the Trump administration’s Iran war.

“At the same time as we’re greenlighting tens of billions of dollars for Netanyahu’s wars, we’re being told, ‘Sorry, we just can’t help you make it a little bit easier to afford your rent check or your groceries or your childcare or even your public transit,’” Mamdani said in reference to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“And I think that what we saw is that New Yorkers were fed up with a status quo of our politics, where we’re stuck explaining why this is the best we’re going to have, as opposed to advocating for the working person who’s being left behind by that same status quo,” Mamdani argued.

Trump had already blasted the New York results on Truth Social Wednesday morning, writing that “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!”

“The Communists are finally making their move. I’ve been waiting and preparing for this for a long time,” Trump posted on Thursday.

“It’s easy to be a Communist — All you have to do is say, ‘I’ll give you everything,’ but that means you’re taking it away from others that have earned it.”

“Over thousands of years, that Ideology has not worked once,” Trump continued. “The game is on. Enjoy watching!”

The unrest inside New York Democratic politics also drew a stark warning from former “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd.

On NewsNation, Todd said the socialist surge exposed a problem for the party’s two top congressional Democrats, warning that Schumer and Jeffries might not survive the same primary climate.

“That Speaker vote is going to be a mess because here’s the reality: The two leaders of the Democratic Party in Congress, Chuck Schumer in the Senate and Hakeem Jeffries in the House, neither one of them could win a primary in New York City right now,” Todd predicted. “Not even close.”

Jeffries, who ran unopposed Tuesday in Brooklyn’s 8th Congressional District, dismissed the GOP’s attempt to cast Democrats as lurching too far left.

“No, Donald Trump has a working relationship with the mayor of the city of New York, and he’s made that publicly and explicitly clear to America not once but twice in the Oval Office,” Jeffries pushed back Wednesday.

Two of Mamdani’s picks, Avila Chevalier and Lander, knocked off Reps. Adriano Espaillat and Dan Goldman even though Jeffries and Gov. Kathy Hochul had backed the incumbents.

Pressed on whether Mamdani had alienated House Democrats by targeting incumbents, Jeffries conceded there was friction.

“The mayor and I agree to strongly disagree about some of his endorsements, and he’s got work to do in terms of the conversations that he’s going to have with members of Congress moving forward,” Jeffries replied.
