President Donald Trump ridiculed Democrats Friday after the party released a multimillion-dollar “autopsy” report examining why Vice President Kamala Harris lost the 2024 election.
Trump mocked both the findings and the price tag during a rally appearance in Rep. Mike Lawler’s New York swing district.
“Did you see they did an autopsy on why they lost the election?” Trump asked the crowd.
The president revisited his recent decision to nickname Democrats the “Dumocrats” before launching into a lengthy attack on the report.
“And they said you lost the election because of Trump primarily,” Trump said.
Trump: "Did you see they did an autopsy on why they lost the election?…They spent $10 million for the autopsy and they had typos in every other sentence, they had misspelled words, they had commas in the wrong location, and they paid $10 million for the autopsy." pic.twitter.com/jJrBLshdgw

“But other than Trump, you lost the election because you had crappy candidates and you had bad policy.”
“And they didn’t know how to speak properly. And they weren’t smart people. And various other reasons.”
Trump then zeroed in on the cost of the report. “They spent $10 million for the autopsy,” he said. “And they had typos … they had typos in every other sentence.”

“They had misspelled words. They had commas in the wrong location. They gave $10 million for the autopsy,” he jabbed. “I could have given them the autopsy without any charge at all.”
The report was commissioned by the Democratic National Committee after Harris lost to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The document attempted to identify why Democrats failed to hold the White House despite early enthusiasm surrounding Harris after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign.
According to the report, Biden’s White House failed to properly position Harris to run a successful national campaign.
The review argued Harris inherited several politically damaging issues during her vice presidency, including immigration and voting rights.
Her role addressing migration from Central America eventually led Republicans to repeatedly label her the “border czar.”
The report also concluded Harris was unprepared to respond to Trump’s attacks surrounding transgender issues.
One section specifically pointed to the effectiveness of a Trump campaign ad attacking Harris on gender ideology.
“The ad, ‘Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you,’ was very effective,” the report stated.
The document also argued Democrats failed to attack Trump aggressively enough during the campaign.
“The Trump campaign and supportive Super PACs went full throttle against Vice President Harris, but there was not sufficient or similar negative firepower directed at Trump by Democrats,” the report stated.
According to the review, Harris also failed to sufficiently connect with male voters and rural voters.
The report did not significantly focus on Biden’s decision to initially seek reelection at age 81 despite widespread voter concerns over his age and mental sharpness.
After Biden withdrew from the race in July 2024, Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz attempted to quickly reshape the Democratic campaign around themes of optimism and “joy.”
The campaign heavily relied on celebrity appearances and rally-style events.
But the internal review suggested the strategy failed to counter Trump’s attacks.
The rollout of the report itself quickly turned into another controversy for Democrats.
DNC Chair Ken Martin had initially pledged transparency about the party’s post-election review.
But he later attempted to keep the report private while Democrats focused on the 2026 midterms. That reversal triggered criticism inside the party.
When the document was finally released Thursday, Martin publicly distanced himself from the final product.
“When I received the report late last year, it wasn’t ready for primetime. Not even close,” Martin began.
“And because no source material was provided, fixing it would have meant starting over, from the beginning — every conversation, every interview, every data set.”
“I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards,” he added.
“I don’t endorse what’s in this report, or what’s left out of it, he continued. “But transparency is paramount.”
Martin also revealed the version released publicly was distributed “in its entirety, unedited and unabridged.”
The report itself appeared filled with highlights, annotations and correction notes pointing out factual errors.
One DNC note challenged the report’s claim that Democrats “netted two seats in the House, flipping ten seats from the Republicans while losing eight.”
“Data appears to be inaccurate and contradicts public reporting,” the annotation stated.
Another section incorrectly described Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin as states that “had consistently and reliably voted for Democratic candidates,” despite all three states backing Trump in 2016.
The release triggered immediate backlash from prominent Democrats.
Former DNC Vice Chair David Hogg called the report “a demoralizing joke” and demanded Martin resign.
“This autopsy, and the months-long debate about even releasing the report, is a demoralizing joke,” Hogg said in a statement.
“Ken Martin should resign, and the DNC should select a new leader who demonstrates competence, creativity, moral clarity, and a relentless commitment to actually changing the broken Democratic Party brand.”
Asked Sen. Brian Schatz how he thought the DNC autopsy was handled. “Poorly,” he told me.
He said keeping it private gave the "implication that they were hiding something." https://t.co/BCwfzxXfUu

Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii also criticized the rollout.
“Poorly,” Schatz told CNN when asked how Democrats handled the report.
He added that the earlier refusal to release the review created “the implication that they were hiding something.”
Rep. Marc Veasey of Texas also publicly questioned Martin’s leadership.
“There doesn’t seem to be a plan to turn things around and the clock is ticking,” Veasey told Semafor. “November is literally around the corner. I believe it’s time for him to move on.”
