Colorado Mayor Confirms Trump Migrant Claims In Attempt to Rebuke Them

1 min read

Ahead of former President Donald Trump’s visit to Aurora, Colorado, the mayor tried to defend the city over its migrant crisis.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said Trump’s claims were “grossly exaggerated.”

The claims in question came during last month’s presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

“You look at Aurora in Colorado. They are taking over the towns. They’re taking over buildings. They’re going in violently,” Trump said on the debate stage in Philadelphia. “They’re destroying our country. They’re dangerous. They’re at the highest level of criminality. And we have to get them out.”

At a later rally, Trump said the “Venezuelan gangs have taken over entire apartment buildings” in Aurora.

In what was meant to be a rebuke, Aurora’s mayor was apparently happy to admit that Venezuelan gangs have, in fact, taken over entire apartment buildings.

“The reality is that the concerns about Venezuelan gang activity have been grossly exaggerated. The incidents were limited to several apartment complexes in this city of more than 400,000 residents,” his statement on Facebook said.

Coffman has previously portrayed the city’s issues with the gang, known as Tren de Aragua, as “regional” due to their presence in Denver as well.

Some may consider even one apartment complex taken over by foreign gangs to be too many, but Aurora’s mayor evidently finds “several” to be acceptable.

Trump will speak at 1:00PM local time in Aurora on Friday according to his campaign’s press release.

“Aurora, Colorado has become a “war zone” due to the influx of violent Venezuelan prison gang members from Tren de Aragua. With approximately 43,000 migrants flooding the neighboring city of Denver since December 2022, many of these migrants have made their way to Aurora, bringing chaos and fear with them,” it reads.

“Local families have been forced to flee their homes as Tren de Aragua members terrorize apartment complexes with guns, theft, and rampant drug activity. Kamala Harris’ open-border policies are turning once-safe communities into nightmares for law-abiding citizens.”
