Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) claimed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will “go on a murdering spree” if former President Donald Trump retakes the White House in the November election.
Pressley made the remarks on Wednesday, during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing, where she raised a red flag about “Project 2025“— a comprehensive policy agenda led by the conservative Heritage Foundation.
The initiative aims to centralize executive power, significantly reduce funding for various agencies, and replace long-serving civil servants with loyal supporters of the president via an executive order called “Schedule F.”
“It is critical that we understand that the far-right extremists who are advocating for Schedule F see it as a means to an end,” Pressley charged. “It is their pathway to enact widespread wholesale policy violence.”
The Massachusetts lawmaker told the committee that the “far-right manifesto” is “a 1,000-page bucket list of extremist policies that would uproot every government agency and disrupt the lives of every person who calls this country home.”
She also spoke up to “sound the alarm” about Project 25’s objective to use the death penalty to “do everything possible to obtain finality for the 44 prisoners currently on federal death row.”
“The Department of Justice would go on a murdering spree,” Pressley asserted. “It would rush to use the death penalty and expand its use to even more people, while circumventing due process protections.”
“One thing I know for sure about Trump and his sycophants is that they telegraph their harm,” she added.
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung dismissed Pressley’s claims about Trump’s DOJ agenda, calling her an “unserious” individual for “using ridiculous language like that.”
Fellow member of the Squad, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), claimed that Trump is holding a rally in the Bronx this week because he is under a “legal version of an ankle bracelet.” Trump announced Thursday night’s campaign stop in the Bronx last week.
“Donald Trump is broke. He needs money. He’s hosting a rally to try to con people and try to fleece them out of every dollar that they have to fund his own legal fees,” she said to the press.
“And by the way, he’s doing it in the South Bronx, not to make a point, but because he’s got court and the man practically has the legal version of an ankle bracelet around him, and he can’t leave the five boroughs because he always has to be in court. And so it is truly an embarrassment to him.”
Cheung shot back that Ocasio-Cortez should “have learned her lesson after getting wrecked at the House Oversight Committee hearing, but she never says anything remotely intelligent.”
Ocasio-Cortez was among the bipartisan lawmakers who had a catfight during an Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accused Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) of wearing “false eyelashes.”
