Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) want to give Americans a three-day weekend with the perks of the same pay.

Sanders introduced a bill that would standardize a four-day work week, without allowing employers to reduce worker’s compensation.

The Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act would require employers to provide staffers with the same benefits packages they are currently receiving under a 40-hour workweek, in addition to protecting their salaries.

The bill would gradually lower the the standard amount of hours that workers must meet to incur overtime pay.

Over a four-year period, the standard workweek would be reduced from 40 hours to 32 hours.

Additionally, the bill would mandate that employees that are required to work over 32 hours a week would receive 1.5 times their regular salary for shifts longer than eight hours, while workers required clock in for twelve hours would receive double their salary.

“Moving to a 32-hour workweek with no loss of pay is not a radical idea,” Sanders remarked in a press release.

“Today, American workers are over 400 percent more productive than they were in the 1940s. And yet, millions of Americans are working longer hours for lower wages than they were decades ago. That has got to change.”

The press release stated that the legislation was “an important step” to make sure workers reap the benefits of advancements in technology alongside employers.

“The financial gains from the major advancements in artificial intelligence, automation, and new technology must benefit the working class, not just corporate CEOs and wealthy stockholders on Wall Street,” Sanders noted.

“It is time to reduce the stress level in our country and allow Americans to enjoy a better quality of life.”

During the bill’s announcement, Sanders pointed towards studies and pilot programs that have shown four-day workweeks improve employee productivity and happiness, while reducing burn out.

The Fair Labor Standards Act, which the federal government currently operates under has mandated a standard 40-hour workweek since 1940.

  1. Sanders is an idiot, but we all knew that. This would run up prices on everything–Bidenflation on steriods!

  2. As soon as I saw the title my question was, “Which Democrat is off the rails again?” It turns out to be which one is STILL off the rails as always.

  3. Socialists believe that you can work fewer hours because you can always get what you want by taking it from someone else who has what you want. Why work when there is so much laziness to enjoy? Besides, who wants to produce stuff for other people anyway. AI will do it for you.

  4. Remember…”MANDATE” means you don’t get to decide…bureaucrats do!
What’s wrong with workers and employers deciding this?
Freedom means few if any mandates!
Bernie is the leading Communist in our government.
In Communism, EVERYTHING is a mandate!

  5. Just because Politicians don’t actually work for a living, nor do they sign the front of the paycheck as an employer, have no business in mucking up the rest of us in any way, shape or form, especially by way of mandates. Little equation for Bernie: less work = less productivity = less availability of goods. He’s such a putz.

  6. This is about businesses paying more taxes to government. Businesses pay Payroll Taxes to the government. They have to match employees FICA, Med, dollar for dollar, Unemployement taxes paid at many times the rate that the employee pays. Don’t be fooled, this isn’t about Bernies “compassion” this is about growing bigger government.

  7. Well alrightalrightalright. Thank you Bernie and the all caring government. I just feel so cuddly, warm and fuzzy…(We should be able to get past these managed, ruled and creeped out feelings, right?) Mandates like this would help us across so many arenas of our lives…how many hours of sleep per night…the number of orgasms required per week…what day we’re required to change our socks…the amount of carbon per person we can release into the atmosphere…the color of the lites in our closets…LORD the mandate possibilities to help our neighbors live correctly are endless.

  8. Considering their track record on anything involving numbers and counting, what do you say we leave the numbers games to the conservatives, and the liberal progressives can sweep floors. The liberal progressives are so stupid and have no common sense.

  9. This will lead to job sharing. 2, 20 hour people for 1 job. Employers will not pay overtime, vacation time, sick time, health insurance or 401k. Govt will deem you worthy of a benefit….or not

  10. Considering all the real issues this country needs to address this is something this ahole is promoting ? What is wrong with you people that keep putting this pathetic mentally deficient moron back in office ?

  11. If he wants 32 hour work weeks, tell the workers their days off are Tue., Wed. and Thur. They’ll have to work every week end. See how that goes over, Bernwad.

  12. Tell the 32 hour folks that their days off are Tue., Wed. and Thur. See how that goes over. Or worse yet, going 24/7, they’d have split days off with alternating days. I bet it goes over real good.
