Democrat Rep. Tlaib Urges Michigan to Vote Against Biden

1 min read

Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) stumped for a progressive organization calling for votes against President Joe Biden in the state’s upcoming primary.

Tlaib, who has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s handling of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, also made a video for the Listen to Michigan campaign.

In the video, posted to X, she urges Democrats in the state to vote “uncommitted” in the February 27th primary.

“If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted,” she says in the clip.

“This is the way you can raise our voices, to make us even more visible,” Tlaib says. “Right now, we feel completely neglected — neglected and just unseen by our government.”

Tlaib was censured in November for her use of the controversial phrase “from the river to the sea”, which has an antisemitic history.

Speaking from the Ford Civic Center in Dearborn, Michigan, she again criticized Biden.

“It is important, as you all know, to not only march against the genocide, not only make sure that we’re calling our members of Congress and local electeds and passing city resolutions all throughout our country – it is also important to create a voting block, something that is a bullhorn to say enough is enough,” Tlaib said.

“We don’t want a country that supports wars, and bombs and destruction, we want to support life,” Tlaib went on. “We want to stand up for every single life killed in Gaza.”

Michigan Battleground Takes Shape

Michigan is expected to be a tight race in November.

Biden won it by just three points in 2020, which the Listen to Michigan organization notes.

“Uncommitted Michigan Democrats opposed to Biden’s policy in Gaza can demonstrate that we hold his margin of victory for re-election. Biden must earn our vote through a dramatic change in policy,” it says on its website.

White House officials visited the state earlier this month to do damage control for Biden on the issue.

They met with angry community leaders amid outcry from local Arab populations.

Biden himself has not addressed the war directly with Michigan’s voters.
