Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addressed Hispanics in America during his Thursday press briefing, urging them not to support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president in 2024.
López Obrador specifically called out DeSantis’ immigration policies.
“Hopefully Hispanics in Florida will wake up and not give him one single vote, to not vote for those who persecute migrants, those who don’t respect migrants,” he said.
He also took credit for predicting the governor’s run.
“As you can see I wasn’t wrong that all his politicking over migrants was because he wanted to be the Republican Party’s candidate,” López Obrador said.
DeSantis Increasingly Tough on Immigration in Florida
DeSantis addressed immigration in his announcement event on Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk.
“We cannot have foreigners pouring into our country illegally by the millions, we cannot allow drug cartels to poison our population with fentanyl,” he said in his opening remarks.
“Biden opened the southern border and allowed massive amounts of drugs to pour into the country. We’ll shut down the border, construct a border wall, and hold the drug cartels accountable.”
In the summer of 2021, DeSantis deployed state law enforcement to Texas to assist with the “catastrophe at the southern border”.
Just one week before his announcement, as the end of Title 42 brought a surge of migrants, DeSantis once again sent Florida law enforcement to “aid Texas’ border security crisis”.
He also took a page from Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s book when he chartered several flights to Martha’s Vineyard for immigrants who had recently crossed the border.
On May 10th, he signed a bill into law increasing penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants and requires hospitals to report patient’s immigration status.
“The Biden Border Crisis has wreaked havoc across the United States and has put Americans in danger,” DeSantis said at the time. “In Florida, we will not stand idly by while the federal government abandons its lawful duties to protect our country.”

Polls show that legal immigrants (citizens) have little sympathy for illegals.
Hispanic heritage American citizens have largely been against the criminals invading for DECADES! Anyone remember César Chavez ( UFW)? He organized that union BECAUSE the criminal invaders were taking away the jobs of American citizens, black, white, Asian, and Hispanic alike, and that was in the early ’70s. It was never about “racism” as claimed so often; it was about economics, and about right and wrong! It still is about those issues!
In the eyes of Hispanics legally in the US, DeSantis couldn’t have asked for a stronger endorsement.
