Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) is demanding that New York City’s Democrat mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani be deported and stripped of his U.S. citizenship.
Ogles’ forceful call comes just days after Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, stunned political observers by leading disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo in early vote tallies.
In a blunt post on the social platform X, Ogles didn’t mince words.
“Zohran ‘little muhammad’ Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York,” he wrote. “He needs to be DEPORTED. Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalization proceedings.”
The comment, invoking the Prophet Muhammad, was likely a reference to Mamdani’s own words and ideology, and not a religious attack, though Democrats rushed to cry foul — as they often do when their radicals are challenged with hard truths.
Ogles Highlights Ties to Convicted Hamas Fundraisers
Attached to Ogles’ post was a formal letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, urging the Department of Justice to begin denaturalization proceedings against Mamdani under a U.S. Code provision that allows revocation of citizenship when naturalized individuals misrepresent or conceal support for terrorism.
Ogles pointed to a June 21 New York Post report citing Mamdani’s own lyrics in which he praised “the Holy Land Five,” members of a now-defunct Muslim charity convicted in 2008 for funneling money to the terror group Hamas.
“Publicly praising the Foundation’s convicted leadership as ‘my guys’ raises serious concerns about whether Mr. Mamdani held affiliations or sympathies he failed to disclose during the naturalization process,” Ogles wrote.
He also addressed potential objections related to free speech, noting that “speech alone does not preclude accountability where it reasonably suggests underlying conduct relevant to eligibility for naturalization.”
Democrats Rush to Shield Their Radical Candidate
As expected, Democrats wasted no time playing the race and religion cards. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) called Ogles’ position “anti-immigrant bigotry,” completely ignoring the valid national security and antisemitism concerns raised by the Tennessee Republican.
But even some Democrats are keeping their distance. Rep. Laura Gillen (D-N.Y.), whose Long Island district includes a large Jewish population, issued a blistering rebuke of Mamdani.
“Socialist Zohran Mamdani is too extreme to lead New York City,” Gillen said. “His entire campaign has been built on unachievable promises and higher taxes, which is the last thing New York needs. Beyond that, Mr. Mamdani has called to defund the police and has demonstrated a deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable antisemitic comments.”
Mamdani, 33, was born in Uganda and immigrated to the U.S. as a child.
He has embraced far-left policies and has openly aligned himself with the Democratic Socialists of America. Now, he’s leading the race to become New York City’s next mayor—potentially its first Muslim and first Asian leader.
His rise, while cheered on by the far-left, is deeply troubling to many New Yorkers who see his platform—defunding police, radical taxation, and anti-Israel activism—as dangerous to the city’s safety, prosperity, and international standing.
