CA Governor Signs $50M ‘Trump-Proofing’ Package After Lobbying For Disaster Aid In Washington

1 min read

California Governor Gavin Newsom has officially signed off on a $50 million “Trump-proofing” initiative, the same week he met with the president to secure wildfire disaster relief aid.

Newsom explained that this initiative will “bolster funding for legal services programs that are vital to safeguarding the civil rights of California’s most vulnerable residents, including people with disabilities, youth who are homeless, victims of human trafficking and wage theft, people facing unlawful evictions, immigrants and more.”

However, he made it clear that “none of the funding in this bill is intended to be used for immigration-related legal services for noncitizens convicted of serious or violent felonies.”

The funding breakdown is straightforward—$25 million goes to the California Department of Justice.

The department plans to use this money to ramp up legal challenges against the Trump administration’s federal policies, which include disputes over environmental regulations and immigration issues.

The remaining $25 million has been set aside for legal support aimed at helping undocumented immigrants facing deportation.

Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas pulled no punches when addressing the political stakes tied to this funding.

“Californians are being threatened by an out-of-control administration that doesn’t care about the Constitution and thinks there are no limits to its power,” he said in a statement this week.

“That is why we are delivering legislation that will allocate resources to defend Californians from this urgent threat.”

On the other side of the aisle, Republican Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones fired back, describing the entire plan as a “slush fund.”

He argued that the package is “a political stunt designed to distract from the urgent issues our state faces and it won’t bode well for fire victims.”

Interestingly, despite preparing for potential legal battles with Trump’s administration, Newsom continues to work with the former president in areas like disaster relief.

After wildfires swept through Los Angeles, Trump visited California this past January to meet with Newsom. A few weeks later, Newsom himself traveled to Washington, D.C., for further talks with Trump on relief efforts.

“We’re working across the aisle, as we always have, to ensure survivors have the resources and support they need,” Newsom stated.

“Thank you President Trump for coming to our communities to see this first hand, and meeting with me today to continue our joint efforts to support people impacted.”

Last month, Newsom also greenlit a $2.5 billion relief package specifically targeting fire-affected areas.

The funds were designated for evacuation efforts, sheltering displaced residents, and removing hazardous debris from homes.

Newsom’s administration has indicated that they’re counting on federal reimbursement to cover the state’s expenses from this effort.

  1. So NewScum is blowing millions of California taxpayers bucks to violate Federal Laws for his precious illegals, and banking on Trump giving him Billions of US CITIZENS taxpayers dollars to fix the disaster NewScums incompetent governance of California created.

Sure hope he’s holding his breath for that aid.

What amazes me is the fact that California citizens keep electing him and the other idiots like the Council Members, Mayors and Soros puppet District Attorneys over and over again.

  2. Don’t you just love all of Newsom’s vitriol against this administration, when in all reality, everything he accuses President Trump if, it is exactly describing Biden. Most Californians with a brain want Newsome gone, they want to be freed from Newsom who is the tyrant. Newsom is exactly the kind of person Satan goes after and manipulates. He is weak minded and easy to control.

  3. & He expects more aid from CA since “Trump” proof CA
    Good luck
Newsome Owns the Next disaster OK
Deny funds to any of Newsomes pet projects
Cal Fires budget is 4.2B how much is Waste within Cal Fire?

  4. I certainly hope #Trump denies or atleast severely limits any potential $. If he does give $, I hope he micromanages it to the penny. I certainly wouldn’t give knowing that they are planning and preparing to fight your every move. At minimum, deduct 50m from whatever amount is to be considered for aid.

  5. I think the chances of him getting more funds in aid are about as good as Biden getting reelected to the White House in 2028.

  6. That’s rich. You diss the boss, then get on your knees and beg him to help you. Doesn’t the term rocks for brains apply here? I think it does. If our president approves any aid to CA, he should apply a fifty-million-dollar deductible. That seems very fair to me.
