In a startling interview, former National Security Adviser John Bolton voiced strong opposition to nominees for two of the nation’s top intelligence and law enforcement roles.
Trump’s nominees, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii for Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for Attorney General, should be fully investigated by the FBI before any Senate confirmation hearings, according to Bolton.
During an appearance on NewsNation’s “The Hill,” Bolton asserted that such formal investigations would demonstrate America’s resolve in defending against foreign threats, particularly from China.
“I don’t think either she or Matt Gaetz ought to have a confirmation hearing until they have both had full field FBI investigations,” Bolton said, stating that this kind of scrutiny would show China “maybe [the U.S. is] serious” about its intelligence and national security priorities.
His statement comes amid growing concerns that Trump’s nominations reflect an unconventional approach that could disrupt longstanding national security structures.
Bolton, known for his own hawkish foreign policy views, has been particularly vocal about Gabbard’s appointment, suggesting that her past rhetoric makes her a liability for a sensitive role like DNI.
Referring to Gabbard’s past public statements, Bolton pointed to her criticism of U.S. foreign interventions and noted her frequent mentions in Russian state media as red flags.
“Given the Russian propaganda that she has espoused over the past period of time, I think she’s a serious threat to our national security,” he told anchor Blake Burman, emphasizing his belief that such a nomination could undermine the very core of America’s intelligence priorities.
Bolton went on to declare Gabbard and Gaetz as the “worst cabinet appointments in recent American history.”
“Up until a few hours ago, I would have said [Gabbard’s nomination] was the worst cabinet appointment in recent American history. Of course, since Matt Gaetz’s nomination, he clearly has taken the lead on that score,” Bolton said.
With Bolton calling for FBI probes and the Senate poised for potentially contentious confirmation hearings, Trump’s administration could face significant pushback from national security advocates who are wary of unconventional leadership in critical security positions.
Nobody, except trouble making democrats give a carp about John Bolton. He is just the worst. The only reason they don’t like Matt Gaetz is because he voices his opinion and fights back against the commie democrats. That’s rich coming from Bolton, calling for the FBI to investigate him. Tulsi I’m not so sure about given her upbringing.
Bolton is an OLD VULTURE (often mistaken for a ‘hawk’) and after anyone who does not smell of WAR!
Sour grapes???
John Bolton is delusional he suffers from (Trump derangement syndrome.)
Actually John Bolton is the one that should have been investigated not by the corrupt FBI but some other third party outside group before he got jobs with the U.S. government. He IS a part of the Swamp that needs to be drained. .
Trump should be allowed to pick his own cabinet and not be hindered by the left. If his choice is wrong, it will show itself and Trump will take care of it, like he did in the past with Bolton.
So were Bolton and others in the positions he is saying need the FBI to investigate also investigated?
Where were his complaints when Biden made all of his entire cabinet picks?
Deep State opposition is one of the strongest endorsements possible.
Bolton needs to stay in his lane! Oh, that’s right! He doesn’t have a lane anymore! He just wants to stay politically relevant! Sorry, John your 15 minutes of fame are long gone! Slink back under the rock from whence you came!
Bolton shows his ignorance and deep state connection by trusting the completely partisan FBI to be the arbiter of who is good for America.
