A publicly funded organization in Portland, Oregon, is offering significant down payment assistance to new homebuyers, but the catch is that they must be non-U.S. citizens.

The Hacienda Community Development Corporation is providing $30,000 to first-time Oregon homebuyers who are DACA recipients, asylum seekers, refugees, green card holders, or other non-citizens, the Oregon Citizen uncovered.

A series of screenshots posted to social media revealed that the funding is provided by the state’s taxpayer-supported Economic Equity Investment Program, which distributed $15 million across various organizations, earmarking $692,775 to Hacienda CDC.

Screenshots, purportedly from a flier sent out by the organization, indicate that Hacienda CDC will distribute 21 free down payments using these funds.

“Clients work closely with financial coaches and HUD-certified housing counselors throughout the entirety of the homebuying process. In addition to mortgage readiness and financial fitness workshops, we provide various opportunities for down-payment assistance,” Hacienda CDC stated.

Oregon state Representative Ed Diehl (R) told the Daily Caller that the program excludes American citizens.

“American citizens in Oregon are struggling to find and buy a home. We have a severe housing shortage in this state. I am appalled that the hard-earned, limited tax dollars of Oregonians are being used to prioritize home ownership for certain non-US citizens. Oregon can’t end this state-sponsored discrimination soon enough,” he commented.

Elsewhere, Texas and 15 other red states filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over a new policy easing the process for Americans’ undocumented spouses and children to obtain legal status.

The “Keeping Families Together,” initiative allows the undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens to change their status without leaving the country.

The lawsuit, which was filed on Friday in conjunction with Stephen Miller’s America First Legal, argues that the new rule infringes on existing immigration laws and the Administrative Procedures Act.

“Biden’s new parole workaround unilaterally grants the opportunity for citizenship to unvetted aliens whose first act on American soil was to break our laws,” stated Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).

He also noted that the program “actively worsens the illegal immigration disaster that is hurting Texas and our country.”

The Biden administration criticized the lawsuit, describing it as a harsh attempt to punish migrant families.

“Republican elected officials continue to demonstrate that they are more focused on playing politics than helping American families or fixing our broken immigration system,” remarked White House spokesperson Angelo Fernández Hernández.

Hernández claimed that the lawsuit is trying to force U.S. citizens and their undocumented family members to “remain in the shadows.”

The lawsuit aims to separate American citizens from their spouses and stepchildren who are already eligible for lawful permanent residency and could remain together through this process,” he noted.

Hernández added that the lawsuit is contrary to the country’s values and the Biden administration will “vigorously defend the Keeping Families Together program” to create a “more just” immigration system.

  1. Discrimination against American Citizens. I hope that after they trash those homes they bail on them. That would be a real statement and justice.
