Fundraising Report Leads to New Wave of Panic

1 min read

A campaign fundraising report for the second quarter of 2024 brought a fresh wave of bad news to Democrats who previously extolled President Joe Biden’s cash advantage.

Former President Donald Trump significantly outraised President Biden’s campaign in the second quarter of 2024.

Trump’s campaign reportedly raised $331 million during the months of April, May, and June. Comparatively, the Biden campaign raised a total of $264 over the same period.

Trump also now holds a cash-on-hand advantage, with $284.9 million in the bank compared to Biden’s $240 million, though both amounts are a huge trove for each campaign in the remaining four months before the election.

Biden had built up his campaign’s cash advantage for months during the Republican primaries, when he consistently led in fundraising.

But since knocking out his primary opponents, Trump’s fundraising has taken off.

“President Trump’s campaign fundraising operation is thriving day after day and month after month. Winning this quarter brought us a cash on hand advantage, which is punctuated by a Biden burn rate that grows while yielding no tangible results for them,” Trump campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said in the release.

In an attempt to soften his disastrous debate performance, Biden’s campaign announced it raised $38 million in the days after the event, making June his best fundraising month of the cycle to date.

But that could not help him overcome Trump’s massive second quarter haul.

Kamala Goes on Defense

Vice President Kamala Harris was asked about the increasing calls for Biden to step down on Tuesday, but she remained supportive.

“I am proud to be Joe Biden’s running mate,” she said in an interview with CBS News.

We beat Trump once and we’re gonna beat him. Period.”

Still, cracks are beginning to emerge within the party’s seated members.

Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), a 30-year House veteran, became the Democratic member of Congress to publicly call for Biden to be replaced.

“I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson. Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw,” Doggett said in a statement. “President Biden should do the same.”

Another Democrat, Representative Jared Golden (D-ME), said Biden’s loss is inevitable in an op-ed published Tuesday.

“Donald Trump is going to win,” he wrote. “And I’m OK with that.”
