Alex Jones Set to Lose Social Media Accounts

Jones’ social media accounts may be taken over by the families of Sandy Hook victims, who won a lawsuit against him in 2022.

Jones was ordered to pay nearly $1.5 billions to 15 plaintiffs who sued him for defamation and emotional distress related to claims Jones made about the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.

Last week, he filed to convert his personal Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization into a Chapter 7 liquidation, which would lead to a massive sell-off of his assets.

“The Debtor does not anticipate that a resolution may be reached with the other parties in interest sufficient to confirm a chapter 11 plan of reorganization,” his filing said. “Given that there is no reasonable prospect of a successful reorganization, remaining in chapter 11 would incur additional administrative expenses without concomitant benefit to the Debtor’s estate.”

The Sandy Hook families supported the move, arguing that Jones’ 2.3 million follower X account should be included in the sell-off. They argue his account could allow him to recreate a future business, which they seek to halt.

If a judge approves the change, it will allow the families to collect on his assets and income for the rest of his life, or until the $1.5 billion debt is paid.

Jones has called the original judgement a “joke” due to his lack of assets being widely known.

“It’d be like if you sent me a bill for a billion dollars in the mail. Oh man, we got you. It’s all for psychological effect. It’s all the Wizard of Oz … when they know full well the bankruptcy going on and all the rest of it, that it’ll show what I’ve got and that’s it, and I have almost nothing.”

He estimates he has less than $12 million in assets, of which little is held in cash.

Jones continues to appeal the judgement, saying the trial was unfair and violates his First Amendment right to free speech.
