President Joe Biden was blasted by the internet after announcing that Transgender Day of Visibility falls on Easter Sunday this year.

The White House was read the riot act by furious social media commenters, after Biden, who is a Catholic, released a proclamation that a day created to honor transgender people would fall on the Christian faith’s most holy holiday.

“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union — where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives,” the White House released in a statement on Friday.

The proclamation lauded transgender Americans as “part of the fabric of our Nation,” while slamming “extremists” for “proposing hundreds of hateful laws that target and terrify transgender kids and their families — silencing teachers; banning books; and even threatening parents, doctors, and nurses with prison for helping parents get care for their children.”

Biden claimed the bills “attack” the most basic American values, which include the freedom to be yourself, to make your own health care choices, and “the right to raise your own children.”

“Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back,” the statement concluded.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said that banning children from using religious designs at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, and declaring Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter is “just two more examples of the Biden Administration’s years-long assault on the Christian faith.”

Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the moves were both “appalling and insulting” to Americans.

“We call on Joe Biden‘s failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only – the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” her statement concluded.

Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the decision in a tweet on Saturday, “Joe Biden just proclaimed that ‘Transgender Visibility Day’ is on Sunday, March 31st. I wonder how he came up with that date.”

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson shared a screengrab of Biden’s proclamation, which he captioned: “What a slap in the face to all Christians in America…”

Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk also shared Biden’s statement in a social media post. “Yes, he really just did that,” Kirk wrote. “If you’re offended, that’s the point.”
