Hilton Hotels publicly backtracked after the Department of Homeland Security accused the chain of deliberately blocking federal immigration agents from securing rooms during a major enforcement push in Minnesota.

Screenshots released by DHS showed reservations for department officials at a Minneapolis-area Hilton property being abruptly canceled after agents attempted to book using official government emails and rates.

“NO ROOM AT THE INN!” DHS declared in a social media post that immediately put the hotel giant on the defensive.

The agency accused Hilton of running what it described as an organized effort to deny lodging to immigration officers at the exact moment federal enforcement activity was ramping up.

“[Hilton Hotels] has launched a coordinated campaign in Minneapolis to REFUSE service to DHS law enforcement,” the agency wrote, accusing the company of malicious conduct.

DHS claimed reservations were canceled only after officers identified themselves as government officials tied to immigration enforcement.

“This is UNACCEPTABLE,” the agency added, framing the incident as a direct interference with federal law enforcement operations.

“Why is Hilton Hotels siding with murderers and r–ists to deliberately undermine and impede DHS law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws?” the statement concluded.

One of the screenshots shared by DHS appeared to show an email from the hotel explicitly linking the cancellations to the presence of ICE personnel.

“We have noticed an influx of gov reservations made today that have been made for DHS, and we are not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at our property,” the email read.

“If you are with DHS or immigration, let us know as we will have to cancel your reservation,” the message continued, according to the screenshot.

The public confrontation quickly forced a response from Hilton’s corporate leadership as the controversy spread.

“Hilton Hotels serve as welcoming places for all,” a company spokesperson said in an email statement addressing the accusations.

The spokesperson stressed that the Minneapolis-area hotel operates independently and does not set policy for the broader brand.

Hilton said it launched an internal review and underscored its longstanding relationships with government agencies.

“We are investigating this matter with this individual hotel and can confirm that Hilton works with governments, law enforcement, and community leaders around the world to ensure our properties are open and inviting to everyone,” the spokesperson added.

In a follow-up statement, Hilton said the independently owned property apologized and took steps to resolve the situation.

“We have been in direct contact with the hotel, and they have apologized for the actions of their team, which was not in keeping with their policies,” the spokesperson noted.

“They have taken immediate action to resolve this matter,” the statement continued, reinforcing the company’s position.

“Hilton’s position is clear: Our properties are open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination,” the spokesperson concluded

The hotel’s ownership group, Everpeak Hospitality, also issued a statement after the DHS allegations went public.

“Everpeak Hospitality has moved swiftly to address this matter as it was inconsistent with our policy of being a welcoming place for all,” the company walked back.

The group said it contacted affected guests to smooth over the disruption caused by the cancellations.

“We do not discriminate against any individuals or agencies and apologize to those impacted,” the company said.

The clash between DHS and Hilton unfolded as federal authorities began a massive deployment of immigration and investigative agents into the Twin Cities area.

Hundreds of DHS personnel were sent to Minnesota as part of a federal investigation tied to immigration enforcement and fraud investigations.

The operation is expected to grow significantly, with roughly 2,000 agents and officers potentially involved over the coming weeks.

The deployment includes officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deportation branch and Homeland Security Investigations.

Agents are expected to oversee a 30-day surge focused on enforcement activity across the Minneapolis area.

The Twin Cities are the first major target of President Donald Trump’s expanded immigration crackdown in the new year.

Investigators are also expected to build on recent inspections tied to alleged fraud cases that have drawn national attention.

An unspecified number of U.S. Border Patrol personnel are also expected to be involved in the Minnesota deployment.

The expanded federal footprint arrives amid heightened political tension and scrutiny surrounding Minnesota’s handling of federally funded programs.

The state has faced years of investigations tied to large-scale fraud schemes involving pandemic-era and post-pandemic relief funds.

One of the most prominent cases, Feeding Our Future, resulted in dozens of indictments and convictions.

The mounting scandal triggered political fallout at the state’s highest levels.

Democratic Gov. Tim Walz announced he would not seek reelection in 2026 as scrutiny intensified.

Walz, the failed 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee, blamed the Trump administration in his announcement.

“I won’t mince words here. [President] Donald Trump and his allies – in Washington, in St. Paul, and online – want to make our state a colder, meaner place,” Walz remarked.

“They want to poison our people against each other by attacking our neighbors,” he added.

Walz said stepping aside would allow him to focus on governance rather than politics.

“Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences,” Walz continued.

“So I’ve decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work,” he added.

President Trump responded to Walz’s announcement in a scathing Truth Social post.

“Minnesota’s Corrupt Governor will possibly leave office before his Term is up but, in any event, will not be running again because he was caught, REDHANDED, along with Ilhan Omar, and others of his Somali friends, stealing Tens of Billions of Taxpayer Dollars,” Trump wrote.

“I feel certain the facts will come out, and they will reveal a seriously unscrupulous, and rich, group of ‘SLIMEBALLS,’” the president added.

Trump also the message to go after other Democratic governors.

The president labeled California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul as “even more dishonest and incompetent.”

  1. Walz bails out when it gets tough going. Seems to me he did that once before. Oh, when his NG unit was activated. See what uniformed Minnesotans elect!
