The president’s war of words with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore erupted over Baltimore’s soaring crime rates and spiraled into political threats from both sides.
On Sunday morning, President Trump unleashed a string of blistering posts aimed directly at Moore, mocking his record on crime while threatening to deploy the National Guard into Baltimore and other cities.
The president was responding to remarks the Democrat governor made earlier in the week, suggesting Trump should “walk our streets and not just talk about us from the Oval Office.”
“Governor Wes Moore of Maryland has asked, in a rather nasty and provocative tone, that I ‘walk the streets of Maryland’ with him,” Trump fired back in a Truth Social post.

“I assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore? As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a ‘walk.’”
The president accused Moore of presiding over a worsening crime crisis and even suggested the governor may need federal backup.
“After only one week, there is NO CRIME AND NO MURDER IN DC! When it is like that in Baltimore, I will proudly ‘walk the streets’ with the failing, because of Crime, Governor of Maryland,” Trump wrote, before warning Moore to “stop talking and get to work.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Trump cited statistics ranking Baltimore as one of the most dangerous cities in the nation.
“P.S. Baltimore is ranked the 4th WORST CITY IN THE NATION IN CRIME & MURDER,” he posted.
Moore’s invitation to the president came during a NewsNation interview, where he urged Trump to see Baltimore firsthand.
“I’d love for the president to take us up on our offer and actually come walk the streets with us,” Moore said.
If President Trump were to walk our streets, stand with our people, and visit our community, he would see what I see: 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. pic.twitter.com/yipidTBTLK

He argued Trump’s remarks were misleading, calling them “inaccurate” and “ignorant,” while accusing the president of launching personal attacks from afar.
The back-and-forth took a financial turn when Trump linked Baltimore’s troubles to federal funding.
Referencing the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed after a cargo ship collision last year, Trump wrote, “Also, I gave Wes Moore a lot of money to fix his demolished bridge. I will now have to rethink that decision???”
The president also resurfaced an old controversy over Moore’s military record. Trump pointed to a past report claiming Moore mistakenly claimed a Bronze Star on a fellowship application when he was younger.
“Did Wes Moore, the Governor of Maryland, lie about getting a Bronze Star?” Trump asked in another post.

Moore has since apologized for the error, calling it an “honest mistake,” and ultimately did receive the honor last year.
Moore’s counterpunch came swiftly on social media, where he mocked Trump as “President Bone Spurs,” referencing the medical deferments Trump received during the Vietnam era.
“President Bone Spurs will do anything to get out of walking — even if that means spouting off more lies about the progress we’re making on public safety in Maryland,” Moore wrote.
He took the jab further, sarcastically offering Trump some assistance, “Hey Donald, we can get you a golf cart if that makes things easier. Just let my team know.”
In another pointed message, the governor accused Trump of using the feud to distract from other controversies.
Donald Trump can stay obsessed with me – that’s fine – but I’ll stay obsessed with working in partnership to continue our historic success of driving down crime in Baltimore. pic.twitter.com/RWzLcUJPTD

“Trump is doing everything in his power to distract from the Epstein files. Really makes you wonder…” Moore wrote.
Later, he echoed the president’s earlier attack with one of his own, “Did Donald Trump, the President of the United States, lie about an injury to dodge the Vietnam draft?”
The duel between the two lawmakers spilled onto national television. On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Moore maintained that Trump’s push to send National Guard troops into U.S. cities was unsustainable, not scalable, and unconstitutional.
He added, “The fourth reason is because it’s deeply disrespectful to the members of the National Guard. As someone who actually deployed overseas and served my country in combat, to ask these men and women to do a job that they’re not trained for is just deeply disrespectful.”

Moore argued that the policy was nothing more than a distraction from “disastrous economic policies” under Trump, which he said were “making life harder for everyday Americans.” He pledged he would not authorize the Maryland National Guard for such duties.
The Democratic governor, however, also acknowledged that Baltimore still faces challenges, even as crime rates have declined in recent years.
“We know — if one person does not feel safe in their neighborhood, that’s one too many. But we also know what tactics actually work and what tactics is just theatrics,” Moore said.
Moore pointed to the need for more federal resources, such as funding for violence prevention programs and increased support for federal agencies like the FBI and ATF, which often partner with local police departments.
“Those are actually real, tangible things that the president of the United States could do and where you could put capital to actually make our communities safer,” Moore said.
The governor also used the spotlight to wade into another controversy: redistricting battles across the nation.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore admits he’s considering cheating by redistricting. He’s failed to keep his state safe or financially sound, so now he has to cheat to make it appear like people support his failed Democrat policies.

He accused Trump of pressuring state Republicans to redraw congressional maps in their favor, likening it to Trump’s infamous call to Georgia election officials after the 2020 election.
“The fact that the president of the United States — very similar to what he did in Georgia, where he called up a series of voter registrants and said, ‘I need you to find me more votes’ — we’re watching the same thing now, where he’s calling up legislatures around the country and saying, ‘I need you to find me more congressional districts,’” Moore said.
He pledged to push for “fair maps and fair seats,” warning that voters must be able to choose their leaders, not the other way around.
“We need to be able to have fair maps,” Moore added. “And we also need to make sure that, if the president of the United States is putting his finger on the scale to try to manipulate elections because he knows that his policies cannot win in a ballot box, then it behooves each and every one of us to be able to keep all options on the table to ensure that the voters’ voices can actually be heard.”
