President Cuts Crypto Deal With GOP Holdouts

4 mins read

President Donald Trump revealed Tuesday night that he had secured a tentative agreement with nearly all House Republicans who blocked a procedural vote—clearing the way for multiple cryptocurrency-related bills to be considered by the House.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social following a high-stakes meeting with 11 out of 12 Republican holdouts who blocked the vote, temporarily stalling legislative action.

“I am in the Oval Office with 11 of the 12 Congressmen/women necessary to pass the GENIUS Act and, after a short discussion, they have all agreed to vote tomorrow morning in favor of the Rule,” Trump posted.

The president noted that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson participated in the meeting remotely.

“Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was at the meeting via telephone, and looks forward to taking the Vote as early as possible,” Trump added.

“I want to thank the Congressmen/women for their quick and positive response. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The nature of the concessions or promises made to the group of dissenting Republicans remained unclear.

Among those who voted against the rule were Reps. Ann Paulina Luna (Fla.), Scott Perry (Pa.), Chip Roy (Texas), Victoria Spartz (Ind.), Michael Cloud (Texas), Andrew Clyde (Ga.), Eli Crane (Ariz.), Andy Harris (Md.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Tim Burchett (Tenn.), Keith Self (Texas), House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), and Andy Biggs (Ariz.).

Speaker Mike Johnson praised Trump for his direct involvement. “I’m thankful for President Trump getting involved tonight to ensure that we can pass the GENIUS Act tomorrow and agreeing again to help us advance additional crypto legislation in the coming days. Much more to come,” Johnson stated.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Johnson stepped into another controversy: the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

The DOJ recently declared it would not be releasing any more disclosures related to the convicted pedophile and alleged trafficker.

Despite his alliance with President Trump, Johnson signaled discomfort over Attorney General Pam Bondi’s previous comments regarding Epstein, saying she should offer more clarity.

During an interview with commentator Benny Johnson, Speaker Johnson was asked about the potential for bringing Epstein’s former associate Ghislaine Maxwell before Congress or subpoenaing DOJ records related to the case.

“I’m for transparency,” Johnson responded. “We’re intellectually consistent in this. Look, [former President] Reagan used tell us, we should trust the American people, and I believe in that principle, and I know President Trump does as well. I trust him.”

“I mean, he put together a team of his choosing, and they’re doing a great job,” he added. “It’s a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide it.”

He also noted that the White House has access to information he does not.

“The White House and the White House team are privy to facts that I don’t know. I mean, this isn’t my lane, I haven’t been involved in that. But I agree with the sentiment that we need to put it out there,” he said.

Johnson referenced a previous Fox News interview where Bondi claimed to have an Epstein client list “sitting on my desk right now for review.”

Bondi has since claimed she was referring to broader case documents and not a specific list of names.

“She needs to come forward and explain that to everybody,” Johnson said. “I like Pam. I mean, think she’s done a good job.”

“We need the DOJ [Department of Justice] focusing on the major priorities, so let’s get this thing resolved so that they can deal with violent crime and public safety and election integrity and going after ActBlue and the things the president is most concerned about, as we are,” he concluded.

Trump, speaking to reporters in Pennsylvania earlier Tuesday, showed little interest in the renewed focus on Epstein.

“I don’t understand it, why they would be so interested. He’s been dead for a long time. He was never a big factor in terms of life,” the President stated.

“I don’t understand what the interest and what the fascination is. I really don’t. And the credible information has been given,” the president stated.

“I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff. It’s sordid, but it’s boring,” Trump added.

“And I don’t understand why it keeps going. I think really only pretty bad people, including fake news, want to keep something like that going.”

Trump also backed Bondi’s judgment on what to release. “But she’s handled it very well, and it’s going to be up to her whatever she thinks is credible, she should release,” he said.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) wasn’t as dismissive. She called for the appointment of a special counsel to dig deeper into the handling of the Epstein case.

“We deserve the truth about the Epstein Files. I’m ready for a Special Counsel to handle this,” Boebert posted on X.

She even proposed that former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) lead the investigation.

Gaetz had earlier withdrawn his name from consideration for attorney general amid public controversy. “@MattGaetz, how about it?” she wrote.

In an interview with Benny Johnson the same day, Boebert expanded on her frustrations.

“Of course we want answers. No one is satisfied with what has been received, or lack thereof. No one is satisfied with the rollout of this.”

She then added, “I think moving forward, we need a special counsel. That has got to happen. There has to be a special investigation into this if we aren’t going to be provided information.”

Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, echoed the call for more openness.

She told Benny Johnson on his podcast that she believes more documents may be released soon.

“I do think that there needs to be more transparency on this, and I think that that will happen,” she said.

“I believe that there will probably be more coming on this,” she concluded. “And I believe anything that they are able to release that doesn’t, you know, damage any witnesses or anyone underage or anything like that, I believe they’ll probably try to get out sooner rather than later.”
