Former President Donald Trump pledged to pursue the release of official documents related to Jeffrey Epstein if elected, including the highly sought “client list”.
Trump made the comments on “The Lex Fridman Podcast,” where he also emphasized that he never visited the now-dead financier’s notorious private island where dozens of young women and underage girls were allegedly abused.
When asked why he had shown “some hesitation” about releasing documents related to the case, Trump responded, “I don’t think – I mean, I’m not involved.”
“I never went to his island, fortunately, but a lot of people did,” he said.
When Fridman asked how Epstein was able to get so close to so many notable executives, politicians, and even royalty despite his controversial reputation, Trump said he was “a good salesman.”
“He was a hailing, hearty type of guy. He had some nice assets that he’d throw around like islands, but a lot of big people went to that island.”
However, he declared it “very interesting” that the so-called client list has been kept under wraps and signaled his willingness to revisit the documents.
“I’d certainly take a look at it. Now, Kennedy’s interesting because it’s so many years ago. They do that for danger too, because it endangers certain people … so Kennedy is very different from the Epstein thing,” Trump said. “But I’d be inclined to do the Epstein. I’d have no problem with it.”
Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to procuring a child for prostitution among other crimes. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail at that time, but a larger case against him was brought in 2019.
He was jailed awaiting trail after being accused of abusing and grooming dozens of young girls in his Upper East Side townhouse and his waterfront mansion in Palm Beach in the early 2000s, but he was found dead in his cell before he was tried.
What ever happened to the correctional officers on duty at the time of Epstein’s convenient death?
