Foreign Flags Raised in US Capital as American Flags Burn

1 min read

In a shocking display of anti-American sentiment, anti-Israel protestors took over Union Station in Washington D.C. as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Congress.

Netanyahu’s visit to the capital has incited a wave of heated demonstrations condemning Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza.

The protests took an alarming turn earlier in the day when maggots were dumped on a banquet table at Netanyahu’s hotel and the city’s fountains were dyed blood red.

The situation escalated in the afternoon as a group of protesters gathered outside Washington’s Union Station, removing U.S. flags and replacing them with Palestinian flags.

Videos circulating on social media depict these individuals burning an American flag and an effigy of Netanyahu. The footage shows protesters dancing and celebrating around the flames as music played.

“Anti-Israel protestors burned an effigy with an American flag wrapped around it outside of Union Station,” reported Gary M. Collins, a journalist for the conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group.

He shared a video of the incident on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The effigy collapsed to loud cheers and shouts of joy as anti-Israel protestors danced around the burning pile,” he added.

“Towards the end of the dancing, a man with a white collared shirt grabbed the burning American flag and was chased by at least a dozen protestors.”

In response to the chaos, the U.S. Park Police quickly revoked the protest permit for the area. Amtrak also informed its customers to expect delays due to disruptions caused by “protest activity.”

The outrageous scenes prompted a wave of condemnation from current and former public officials, as well as other commentators on social media.

“This is an insult to every American who has worn the flag on their arm and died for our nation,” wrote former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan on X. “It’s disgusting and disgraceful.”

David M. Friedman, a former U.S. ambassador to Israel, warned, “Don’t think for a second that these protestors are just anti-Israel. They represent a far greater threat to America.”

Former Republican New York lawmaker and gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin voiced his alarm, tweeting, “Anti-American, pro-Hamas, antisemitic terrorists are chanting allahu akbar, vandalizing property, and burning American flags in DC. Police should immediately intervene and make arrests! The line of protected free speech has indisputably been crossed.”

Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama expressed his outrage, writing, “I just took this picture from my Senate office. Less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol, pro-Hamas protestors have taken down and burned AMERICAN FLAGS at Union Station to fly Palestinian flags. Absolutely SHAMEFUL.”

The protesters also defaced the Christopher Columbus Memorial Fountain outside the station, spray-painting graffiti with messages such as “Hamas,” “Free Gaza,” and “All Zionists Are Bastards.”

This disturbing episode highlights the growing tensions and divisive reactions surrounding U.S. support for Israel, raising serious questions about the boundaries of free speech and public protest.
