Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) attacked Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” with disparaging remarks about her intelligence.
Their embarrassing feud erupted last month during a late-night House hearing, when Greene commented on Crockett’s “fake eyelashes,” prompting Crockett to make a snarky comment about Greene’s appearance.
Kimmel asked Crockett, “Can you tell us what led up to that? Was there anything that we didn’t see that precipitated that?”
“Marjorie is a little slow,” Crockett replied. She explained that their hearing, initially scheduled for 11 a.m., was delayed until 8 p.m. because Greene and some Republicans attended Donald Trump’s trial in Manhattan.
The hearing was intended to discuss Attorney General Merrick Garland and the GOP’s efforts to hold him in contempt of Congress, but it quickly derailed into an insane fight on the House floor.
“We had to wait for them to come back,” Crockett said about the delay. “We’re supposed to be talking about AG Merrick Garland, and she starts talking about [Trump] Judge Merchan. So now I’m upset because it’s already late at night, I’ve been here all day, ready to work, and she’s still talking about that failed trial.”
When Kimmel suggested that it wasn’t just Democrats disliking Greene, Crockett quickly added, “Her people don’t like her either.”
She reiterated, “I’d be hard-pressed to find someone dumber,” when Kimmel asked if Greene is “the dumbest person in the House of Representatives.”
Crockett said that her pastor was the first person to contact her post-fight. When Kimmel asked if he was upset, Crockett responded, “He wasn’t. You’d have to know my pastor to know that he’s about this life.”
Her pastor even advised her to warn him next time she plans to make another catty comment so he doesn’t spit out his drink while laughing.
After Greene mocked her “fake eyelashes,” Crockett responded to Chairman James Comer with, “If someone starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
Crockett mentioned seeing Greene since the skirmish, but noted that they don’t speak. She also alleged that some Republicans have subtly supported her.
“I saw a couple of Republican women that were like, wink, wink… and then I’ve had some Republican men walk up to me and say, ‘I love your eyelashes,’” she remarked.
Crockett told The Independent that Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) almost stood up to defend her after Greene went after her.
The commentary caused Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to get involved and yell that Greene’s remarks “disgusting” and “unacceptable,” labeling them a “personal attack and breach of decorum.”
When Greene asked Ocasio-Cortez if she was hurt by the remarks, the New York Democrat retorted, “Oh girl, oh baby girl, don’t even play.”
“When AOC jumped in so quickly, what people didn’t see off camera was that Ayanna Pressley was ready to jump in and stood up and… it was gonna get into a fight,” Crockett told the outlet.
She also noted that Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the committee’s top Democrat, chimed in as well. When Greene made the cutting comments, Raskin reportedly said, “That’s beneath even you, Ms. Greene.”
“Raskin was in the thick of it too. We were going back and forth with Comer,” Crockett, a freshman Democrat, added.
“They have no idea that Raskin as well was in the middle of this and we were going back and forth with Comer,” Crockett added.
