Kari Lake Files Paperwork to Make Run Official

1 min read

Republican Kari Lake, a pro-Trump candidate, filed paperwork on Tuesday to run for Independent Senator Krysten Sinema’s seat in Arizona.

The race will be a hotly contested three-way battle in a critical swing state for both parties. She is expected to announce her campaign launch some time next week.

“I’ve looked at the polling, to be honest, and I believe I’m the only one who can win that race,” Lake said in July.

She spent much of the day before filing on Capitol Hill where she met with various senators.

“Without Honest Elections, we don’t have a country. Save America,” she posted to X late Tuesday night.

She also posted a formal announcement teaser, setting the date of October 10th.

“In just ONE WEEK, we will take our next steps in this incredible journey that we’ve been on together. I can’t wait to LAUNCH our movement into the future with all of you!”

Lake previously ran for Arizona governor but lost to now-Governor Katie Hobbs last year.

She was notorious for her outspoken support of former President Donald Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

To date, she has also refused to formally accept the results of the 2022 gubernatorial election which she lost.

Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, a Republican, has already announced a run for Sinema’s seat, while Democrat Representative Ruben Gallego is competing for his party’s nomination.

Former Arizona Senate candidate and Trump-backed Blake Masters is also reportedly considering a run, but he has not made any formal or unofficial announcement of his intent. Trump reportedly has told Masters not to run, warning that he’d likely lost to Lake in a primary.

Sinema has also not formally or unofficially announced her intent to run for reelection, complicating the matter, though she is widely expected to do so. She famously switched parties from Democrat to independent late last year.
